HOW TO EAT WHAT YOU WANT THIS FESTIVE SEASON WITHOUT GAINING WEIGHT

September was all about Ganesh Chaturthi, now we need to gear up for Navratri in October, Diwali in November and finally Christmas and New Years’ in December. The second half of the year in India is quite a colourful period. Our homes are full of the hustle and bustle of guest and our kitchens are stocked with all the goodies one can imagine.

Festive season in India is a paradise for food lovers. This is the time when all our best dishes are cooked. Mithaai shops are full of people and their shelves are full of the best sweet meats. It is really difficult for anyone to be on a diet during the festive season.

But, there are some things that one can follow in order to keep their weight under check while bingeing on drool-worthy food. Here are some tips that will help you keep your weight gain under control during the festive season.

  • Practice portion control:

It’s hard to say no to your aunt when she offers you a box of motichoor laddoos. So don’t. Have your laddoos but be mindful of how much you’re eating. Stick to one laddoo, a piece of barfi, or one puran poli. Don’t binge on the sweets that get sent to you during the festive season. They are the biggest reason for you festive weight gain.

  • Supplement your snacks:

During this time of year, your snack cupboards are likely full of snacks like deep fried chaklis, chivdas, chips and other delicious namkeens and sweets that are a big part of our Indian cuisine. It’s so easy just to grab a packet and finish it when you’re hungry, but be mindful of your eating and try to supplement your snacks with whole foods like fruits, dry fruits, seeds and veggies with hummus. Eat unhealthy only when necessary like when you’re visiting family or friends and you can’t help it.

  • Eat at proper timings:

We know it can be difficult to eat at set timings, especially when you’re visiting relatives or having guests over to your house for meals. But having set times when you eat can help you curb hunger pangs at random hours and in turn reduce snacking. This is something that you should practice all year round. It will help you be healthy.
